Learning On the Go

If you’re a person who travels around a lot, and you want to learn bird language, here are some tips for learning on the go.

Instead of choosing one particular place that you go to every day, choose an environment type. So in other words, if you have a secret spot at home that you get to visit once a week, and it’s a lawn with a thicket edge along one side of it, then wherever you’re traveling, look for a lawn with a thicket edge. You’ll probably encounter the same bird species.

If you don’t want to anchor on a habitat, then anchor on a species.

If the bird you’re choosing to study at home is the robin, then study robins wherever you go. They may vary from place to place, but all robins will have songs and calls that are similar from place to place. It’s not ideal, but don’t give up because you’re not in one place all the time. The birds will teach you wherever you are, if you pay attention.
